Target Audience

Target Audience Profile for Action Genre:

In terms of marketing, I would say that most action films are aimed at men who
are aged 18-30+ years of age.

Setting:
This is usually done in an olden time setting .e.g. the Gangster. This makes a genre such as action easily recognizable as it is commonly used in action films.

Iconography:
This is when there are re-curing still images or icons of some sort, often portrayed as a memory within action films. An example of such an icon in an action film would be a very attractive woman and also guns as well as cars.

Characters:
The audience would expect that a hero of some sort must go through various obstacles to achieve his aim .e.g. revenge or saving someone. The main protagonist may have had issues n his past life within which he tries to solve within the film.

Narrative:
Action films usually have a narrative either from the main protagonist's point of view or just an over all narration with someone loosely linked with the film.

Action films generally set out to give intense feelings to their audiences.

Target Audience Profile for Thrillers:

In terms of marketing, I would say that most thrillers are aimed more at females as they are more attracted to being manipulated into feeling emotions of empathy and shock. The ages would be perhaps 18- 30+ as well.

Setting:
When it comes to setting, thriller is quite broad though some common examples would range from exciting settings such as exotic places to less exciting settings such as suburbia. It is easier to pinpoint an actual setting when there is a sub-genre to a film

Iconography:
It is clear that within genres such as thrillers, there is often an element of past literature. This is often based in the Victorian Era, mainly because that was when the aspect of thriller was fully established and therefore at its most popular.

Characters:
What tends to be different about thrillers are the fact that the main character could actually just be an antagonist. Usually, when this is the case, the only time that we are properly introduced to these characters were when they meet their end or when the film is nearing an end. The antagonist usually has issues from the past which is usually behind why he acts like he acts in the situations.

Narrative:
Usually with thriller films, focus is placed on the main antagonist as well as the main protagonist. The main antagonist is usually highly equipped and skillful, mainly like a super-villain where the main protagonist who is actually skillful themselves must thwart them. These protagonists are usually resourceful however, not as powerful as their enemy.

Thriller films generally aim to shock people.

Definitions of Action/Thriller:
Action and Thriller are genres which fit well with each other and thriller easily slips into place with the action. An exciting story with suspenseful moments mixed with psychological and mysterious effects makes it an interesting genre and since this is mixed with action, it enthuses more literal action into sequences and more emotional aspects of the action genre. Generally thriller and action both have the common concept of a dark and evil character and there are some moments where a character like this manipulates the hero in some form to make more mysterious and psychological elements into the action. The effect that action has on the film is that it has a range of fast paced and almost life threatening sequences with a general love interest: the mixture of these genres is well mixed as it makes for a very good movie as these elements in a movie can bind well if executed properly. The target audience for an action thriller is generally from the ages 10-24 and are mostly males. The effect the generic audience has on the film is that thriller films are targeted for these ages more so the audience for the action thriller will be based around those elements.
INTERESTS;
  •      What appeals most to those interested in this genre is the storyline as most audiences appreciate a compelling storyline with a big thriller and action concept.
  •      They also like the fast-paced action sequences .e.g. fight scenes and the interesting visuals.
  •       In the aspect of thriller, people enjoy the shock factor of a thriller as thrillers are much more about the shock factor rather than the fear.
OCCUPATION;
  •      Most of the 10-24 year olds are in full-time education.
  •      Some of them may also work in part-time jobs or are part of apprenticeships.
  •        People of such an age range often are subject to disposable incomes due o the fact that their parents usually provide for them in nearly every way.
PEOPLE WHO WATCH ACTION THRILLER MAY ALSO WATCH:
  • Comedy
  • Horror
  • Sci-fi
  • Crime
  • Drama
  • Adventure
This is because it includes a lot of violence and disturbing scenes with various psychological issues that may disturb and distract younger viewers of understanding the film. Things that may attract the target audience are:
  •       Storyline
  •        Feeling of suspense
  •        Mysterious/unknown character personalities.
